More Shelot Information and Helps

July 24th, 2009 -- Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Many people have told me that they love my Hair Shelots, but are still wanting information and help as to how that you use them.

So I decided to start working on some more pictorials and instructions.

The first thing that I have to talk about is the way they are constructed, with the connected concentric rings.

This means that the rings are held together at two connection places. These are NOT where you slide the stick! This places too much pressure on those spots and Could cause the shelot to fail. I use these connection places as a top and bottom of the design.

The shelot is not like a hair slide that has a hole through which to put the stick. It is designed to give you leeway to place the hairstick, depending on the style. The not putting the stick through the connection spots is really the only limit as to how to place the stick.
Other than that one place, the hair stick can be threaded through any spot between the two rings.

However on many of my designs I have created spots for the stick to rest with curved or flat beads at the resting places. This was to make the stick want to rest in that spot.

I am working on a pictorial that I will add shortly showing more of the ways to use the shelot.

I am also working on some tutorials that show how to do styles with the hairsticks.

How to Wear a Shelot or HairShield on a Cinnamon Bun

July 16th, 2009 -- Posted in Uncategorized | 3 Comments »

This is a tutorial on how to wear some of my designs that I call a shelot which means shield. And it is a shield for your hair.

First you gather all of your hair like you would for a ponytail and you can either have it in an elastic or not. Then you twist the hair into a rope. Take the rope and coil it around in a spiral tucking the ends under the coil. Then place the shelot over the coiled hair and hold in place, then take the hair stick and weave it into the hair and shelot making sure that the stick goes over the outer ring and under the inner ring at each inner and outer point. Just like in the slideshow pictures.

With practice this becomes easy to place one on your hair and have it stay comfortable all day. Shalom, Raven.

Every Artist Must Have At Least One

July 10th, 2009 -- Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Through out the ages every artist has found the need to find those who love, and will support their work.

Even the DaVinci’s and Michaelangelos of the world have had to find patrons, who would nurture and support them, while they created their masterpieces.

Fortunately, for artists today, the advent of the magic of the electronic age, can bring ones work to the eye of those who can support their work. So this has become much easier in some ways.  Marketplaces like Etsy.com and Ebay have made the world your market in a way never before seen.  Etsy.com has the added benefit of being open to artists to sell their own creations and or those who offer vintage goods or artists and crafters supplies.  That makes it a wonderful place for a new artist to gain a reputation for themselves and become known.

That is just a few of the reasons that I love Etsy.com.  With it I have been able to show my work to the world at large. Letting them know that I am here, and am creating things of beauty for others to enjoy.

A small shop of my creations maybe found at http://ravenslair.etsy.com, where I have listed some of the flights of my imagination for your pleasure and enjoyment.

I hope that you enjoy my creations,
as much as I enjoy making them.

Shalom, Raven

Welcome to My Forest Realm

July 9th, 2009 -- Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

I live on the edge of a forest, my name is Raven, welcome to my world.  I inhabit a realm of fairies, dryads and creatures that others have long since stopped believing in, but they still are alive and well in my world.  They help to inspire my artwork.  They show me things that others do not see, in fact they are some of my friends.  So if you still believe in magic and want to come in and celebrate and dance under a moon with the little people, then come with me and I will take you on a tour and show you sights that few other than the fairy and little Folk have ever had a chance to see.  Raven
